The 2nd Symposium of UTLCA was held.

The 2nd Symposium of UTLCA was held on Monday, September 9 at the ENEOS Hall, Komaba II Campus, the University of Tokyo. Approximately 100 people attended the site-only event.

The symposium began with an explanation of UTLCA’s approach by Associate Professor Ichiro Daigo. Next, three lectures were given: “IDEA’s Efforts to Create a Future Database” by Dr. Kiyotaka Tahara, Director of IDEA Laboratory, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), with which UTLCA collaborates; “Geopolitics and Energy Security” by Associate Professor Yu Koizumi; and “Socioeconomic Evaluation and Application of Technology and Industry Using Input-Output Analysis” by Project Assistant Professor Yuko Oshita. Then, regarding the efforts of the two subcommittees of the Pre-emptive LCA Social Cooperation Research Department, Professor Satoshi Obara explained the Future Scenario Subcommittee, and Mr. Masaru Fujii of the Sustainability Solution Department, Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corporation, explained the Resource Recycling Subcommittee. Finally, Mr. Masakazu Sugiyama, Director-General of UTLCA, closed the meeting with expectations for UTLCA to promote preemptive LCA through industry-academia collaboration and called for further cooperation among all parties involved.

UTLCA will continue to promote research while deepening cooperation among industry, government, and academia, aiming for the creation of academic principles and social implementation of “preemptive LCA” that will contribute to the planning of future strategies.
